LYNCHBURG --
An attorney for the sister of Clarence Beard Jr., a city man who died in police custody in 2006, said a $250,000 settlement paid by the city wasn’t as important as the apology that came with it and the ability to clear Beard’s name.
The settlement was approved Thursday afternoon in Lynchburg Circuit Court after Beard’s sister, Mary Peterson, filed a $12.5 million wrongful death claim against seven city police officers more than three years ago. A
